A Journey of Resilience and Self-Reliance
Life as a trash collector is a distressing tag that nobody would ever want to be addressed”
Being a garbage gatherer and uneducated, it is almost impossible to afford a dignified and respectful life. To avail one meal a day, we used to go in search of trash along the dumpsites. Before my marriage, I used to visit dumpsites with my mother but after marriage, I used to go alone and availed a minimum of 100 rupees per day. My husband is a daily wage earner and didn’t really meet all of our ends. Being a part of SEWA, it has helped me in many ways. I received various pieces of training on notepad and jewellery making which made me capable enough to be self-sustaining and independent. Now I am able to afford my own rent and at least live a life of self-regard.
